Ground Investigation & Pre-Excavation Checks

Daily Safety Checks

Permits & Site Controls
Once the ground is confirmed safe, we request all necessary permits to dig. Safe working areas are then established using excavation barriers, controlled walkways, and spoil placed a minimum of 1m away from trenches. A dedicated banksman provides continuous oversight, ensuring compliance and safe operations at all times. Hand excavations are used when necessary.
Skilled Operatives
Excavations are carried out exclusively by skilled operatives holding the necessary site tickets. All personnel wear fire-retardant uniforms, and a “STOP” attitude is promoted to reinforce safety and vigilance. Ground is removed in layers with toothless buckets, while suitable material is recycled into the project to reduce carbon footprint. Step access with handrails is provided for all trenches to ensure safe entry and exit.
Deep Excavations
Where deeper excavations are required, such as for drainage connections, we employ additional protective measures including trench shoring, trench supports, and stepped excavations. These methods safeguard operatives, maintain trench stability, and comply with industry standards.
Out-of-Hours Operations
We understand that many EV hub connections require out-of-hours works, particularly for drainage. Blackoak Contracts provides trained teams equipped with SMSTS and first aid qualifications to ensure leadership and safety, even in the absence of site managers. Our operatives are Street Works certified, enabling them to work with local councils and traffic management companies to keep the public safe at all times.
