We prioritize the wellbeing of our teams, partners, and communities by implementing rigorous safety protocols, continuous training, and proactive risk management, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable operations on every site we work.
Pre-Start
Before works begin, each project is issued a SHEQ folder prepared by our office team. Aligned with the Construction Phase Plan (CPP), it includes Risk Assessments, Method Statements, and COSHH Assessments. We also create detailed site layouts and drawings in line with CDM requirements. All operatives, including subcontractors, are competence-checked before arriving on site and must read and sign the SHEQ folder, ensuring clear awareness of risks and safe working practices.
Site Setup
Blackoak Contracts ensures every site is safely and efficiently established from the outset. Secure Heras fencing and water barriers control access, while CDM-compliant signage provides clear guidance. Welfare cabins support operatives’ wellbeing, creating a safe, compliant, and organized environment for works to progress responsibly.
Site setup also includes designated pedestrian walkways, clearly defined safe excavation zones, and robust trench control measures, further enhancing safety and minimizing risk on site.
During Works
Throughout each project, our site supervisors play a vital role in upholding the highest health and safety standards. As a minimum, they will:
- Ensure 5-point PPE compliance at all times
- Confirm fire-retardant uniforms are worn during excavations
- Ensure high-visibility clothing is worn during non-excavation works
- Complete daily plant inspections
- Maintain HAVS records
- Produce and review CAT scan reports
- Issue and manage permits to dig and hot works
- Oversee lifting plans
- Keep an up-to-date PAT test register
- Deliver regular toolbox talks
- Conduct daily briefings with all operatives
These measures ensure that safety is actively managed and consistently reinforced throughout every stage of the works.
Environmental Commitment
Blackoak Contracts is dedicated to protecting the environment, minimizing impacts, and promoting sustainable practices across all renewable sector projects. COSHH storage is in place on all sites for safe fuel containment, with fire extinguishers positioned alongside. We work hard to prevent spills, but in the unlikely event one occurs, spill kits are stored within the COSHH area, ready for immediate use. Drip trays and spill mats are also available should machinery develop a leak. All spills are carefully documented and returned to our office, where they are disposed of safely and responsibly by a registered waste management company.
